WHAT SOME OF OUR PUPILS HAVE TO SAY

My name is Hazel and I am 12 years old. I have been dancing for 2 years. The things that I like about it are that I have made lots of new friends from other areas of Chesterfield. I also love all the different kinds of dance that we do, like ballet, tap and disco. Just Dancing Studios has really helped me to boost my confidence and keep fit and healthy. I love it.

Hi my name is Megan and I am 10 years old. I have been dancing for six years now and I still enjoy every bit of it. I also have a sister who comes dancing and she’s been coming about three years. I do festivals which are competitions I have got quite a few medals which include one 2nd, two 3rd’s and three 4th’s which I have won mostly with my friend Alex, at the last festival we won 1st place with our tap duet and have a trophy to share for a year. Just dancing studios is really the best! I never want to leave.

Hi my names Alex. I am 11 years old. I have been dancing for 5 years now and I still have the best time ever! I have a sister called Ellie who started with me because I used to be so shy I wouldn’t start without her! I do festivals which are competitions and I have won quite a few medals, one 2nd, two 3rd’s and three 4th’s with my friend Megan we are like best friends! The dancing school, (including me) have just been at a festival at Penistone Grammar School, from the 10th of April to the 13th of April. We all did very well I got a 4th for my character (which is a pupil dancing like somebody else) and Megan and I did really well, and got 1st for our tap duet, so we were given a plaque that has a pair of ballet shoes on it, and we had to stay till the end of the festival so we could collect our trophy. We had to shake hands with the adjudicator (which is the person who is the judge) and curtsey! We did a show at the Chesterfield Theatre in December. I love dancing and I love Just Dancing Studios. I would never leave it! It’s the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi my names Becky and I am 12 years old. I have been coming to Just Dancing studios for 9 years and I have enjoyed every class. I do festivals, ballet, tap, modern, and theatre craft, disco and singing. I have been in a number of shows and have a collection of medals and certificates. I also have a 3 year old niece who comes dancing called Phoenix. I have lots of friends, younger than me and older than me. When I am older I hope to become a dancing teacher or a famous dancer and I strongly think that just dancing studios can help me reach my goal.

Hi my name is Monica and I am 11 years old. I have been dancing for 4 years and I have loved every minute of it! I have been in 2 shows, 2 exams and 1 festival. I hope to do well in dancing when I am older and I will try to keep all my dancing medals! When I am older I still want to carry on with dancing however I do not want to do it all my life! I have many friends at Just Dancing Studios and hopefully we will all keep in touch when we are older!

My name is Carol and I have been bringing my 2 daughters to Just Dancing for more years than I care to admit! I have enjoyed watching them both develop from shy, awkward girls with 2 left feet to mature, self confident adults (sometimes)! I have watched various shows as well as helping out backstage. I have learnt how to put the most flyaway hair into French plaits and to put makeup onto the faces of children from 2 years upwards. I am now helping by sitting outside the main room on a Saturday to take money and speak to parents while the experts get on with the job of teaching the next generation of dancers. It’s lovely to see the girls coming in with smiles on their faces and to watch as they progress with their lessons. They all seem to thoroughly enjoy what they are doing, and that’s as it should be.

My name is Lindsay and Carol is my Mum. I am 19 and I started at dancing when I was a toddler because Miss Dawn couldn’t bear to see me have a tantrum every time I was taken out while my big sister was left to enjoy herself, and that was over 18 years ago. When I was little I used to suffer from asthma which meant that sometimes I couldn’t join in but it never stopped me from enjoying myself when I could, when I was little I won the dancing school endeavour trophy for always trying hard, even when my asthma was bad and for smiling! I did my first show when I was 3 and was a fairy. Since then I have joined in lots of shows and I started to do festivals at 10 which I have enjoyed doing, I have recently got third for my duet with Lauren. I help to teach and I am preparing to do my disco teaching exam shortly, I am also preparing to do my gold ballet and tap medals. I can now do high kicks that are the envy of everyone else in the class. I would like to carry on dancing for as long as I can but I don’t want to do it as a full time job.

At festivals you get medals I've got a 4th at my first festival 3rd at my 4th festival. I've made lots of new friends and I love dancing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I'm Connor, and I’m 16 years old and have been dancing at Just Dancing Studios for 3 months. I have always been interested in musical theatre and singing and have been doing that since I was very young. I only started dancing seriously about a year ago, then in January I came to Just Dancing Studios and I improved 100% and I’m sure I will continue to improve. Not long after starting I started to help and teach the girls with their singing. I really enjoy this as I feel I make a difference and I can see and hear the girls singing improving each week. I also feel that as well as the girls learning from me I also learn a lot from them as they have all been dancing longer than me. I dance on Mondays and Saturdays and I really enjoy every minute of it in classes I learn a lot as well as having great fun. There is a real sense of belonging at the dance school and I get on really well with all of the girls and have made some great friends. I am very grateful to Miss Dawn for taking me on as I was 15 when I started and I did not know most of the basics of dancing.

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I have been dancing at Just Dancing Studios for 20 years, having started when I was 3 years old. I have been a student teacher for 7 years. I still find it a great satisfaction teaching children to dance and seeing them improve every week. I am currently working towards my associate exams as well as training to become a qualified veterinary nurse. Over the years I have taken part in 8 shows in the old Aquarius, Palace Theatre in Mansfield and the Pomegranate Theatre in Chesterfield. I have taken part in a number of festivals competing mainly in troupes and duets. I have also danced in a number of presentation evenings, school fairs, Chatsworth’s annual show for Noel Edmond’s Airborne Charity and displays for St Patrick’s day. I currently take classes and teach Ballet, Tap, Theatre Craft, Disco and Modern. I have also taken classes in a wide range of dancing disciplines including Ballroom, Latin American, Irish, Salsa. Which I have thoroughly enjoyed and achieved good marks in exams. Although Just Dancing Studios has had its ups and downs it is still a very successful dancing school helping children to grow in capability and confidence. It is definitely a big part of me and a great relief from the stresses of everyday life. I could never imagine not dancing and think every child should have the opportunity to dance.

Hi my name is Lauren and I am 16 years old. I have been dancing since I was just 5 years of age which means that I have been dancing for 12 years now, and I still enjoy every aspect of it all. I thoroughly enjoy dancing as it is all that I have ever wanted to do since I was little, it's fun, enjoyable and also a healthy way to keep fit. As well as taking part in my own classes I am also a student teacher currently preparing for some of my teaching exams. I thoroughly enjoy teaching as it gives me my own independence in class and also helps me with my exams. It's a great feeling inside knowing that you’re there to help someone improve on their basic skills of dancing and to know that one day they will hopefully be where you are. That’s really what being a great dancer and dance teacher is all about to me. Knowing that at the end of the day you can go away with the satisfaction of helping someone showing them what dancing is all about. I also regularly take part in festivals, going away and competing against other dance schools from different areas. This broadens a dancer's idea about dancing and unless you’ve been to a festival and danced there then you really don't know the excitement that runs throughout your body, and when you're on that that stage with all those lights shining on you, you can really show people what you can do. I have always loved competing in festivals and still do as it has improved my confidence greatly and it has been an experience that throughout my life of dancing is one of the highlights that stands out the most. In 2003 I also received a nomination for an IDTA teaching awards scholarship for receiving 90 marks in my grade 5 tap examination, awarded by Mr. Glenn Trickett. I had to go to Manchester where I competed against other nominees for the final scholarship which was presented after a long, hard days work. Although I didn’t receive the scholarship I thoroughly enjoyed myself and had a fantastic day, this is also a highlight that I will never forget and will hopefully help me to proceed further into the dancing career that I would like to pursue. I also love taking part in shows, as they are always fun and filled with new and exciting prospects of dance. They are there to show parents, family and friends what the children of ‘Just Dancing Studios’ can do and how good they are at something that they love. They are a great opportunity for pupils to stand out and show people what you are good at. One of my favourites that I have taken part in at Just Dancing Studios is ‘Oliver’ of which I played the part of Oliver. It was a fantastic show and Oliver was just one of the highlights of the show as we also included, Les Miserable and also Cabaret in the second half. It was so much fun and everyone enjoyed taking part, it was a highlight for everyone and an experience that will never be forgotten. I have also taken part in several dance pantomimes at the ‘Mansfield Palace Theatre’ over the years including many different famous actors and actresses from around the country. Some of these include Alex Lovell from ‘Play House Disney’, Nick Cochrane from ‘Coronation Street’, Martyn James and Ken Morley also from ‘Coronation Street’. Just Dancing Studios has helped me greatly over the past 12 years and has made me into the dancer and person that I am today. I owe a lot to my dance teacher, Miss Dawn for teaching me and putting up with me for all these years. She is a great inspiration to what I would like to become and will hopefully carry on helping me to pursue my dreams. Just Dancing Studios is the best and will carry on helping the children that have the potential to become dancers that will hopefully pursue their dreams too, when they grow up.

To Dance is to Live and to Live is to dance!
